It is generally suitable for short distance measurement. If it is industrial ultrasonic proximity switch, some brands can measure 8 meters and 10 meters. At present, our max ranging distance is 6m. In addition, our short range proximity switch can detect 20 to 150mm. However, ultrasonic waves can also measure very long distances. For example, portable ultrasonic depth sounder can detect 300 metres. This is mainly applicable for lake and ocean depth detection. If it is an ultrasonic level meter, it can also detect up to 60m or 70m.
The detection distance of an ultrasonic sensor depends on many factors. These include wavelength and frequency. In general, the longer the wavelength and the smaller the frequency, the greater the detection distance. For example, some 20khz ultrasonic transmitters can measure 15 meters. The 40KHz transmitter can generally detect 12m or 6m. And 58KHz sensor can generally measure 5m. They are generally used in car reversing radar. 100Khz transducer can detect 3m~4m. And 200KHz transducer can detect 2m. But 1MHz ultrasonic transducer only can detect 1m.
At present, the frequency range of our ultrasonic transducers is from 14 KHz to 4 MHz. The low frequency transducers are mainly used for distance or level measurement. Ultra-high frequency transducers are mainly suitable for flow measurement, e.g. 1MHz, 3MHz and 4MHz.
